Scottish Rugby
Murrayfield is the home of Rugby in Scotland as the national rugby stadium. Scotland and its people love the sport of rugby and are proud of their Scottish team and its accomplishments. There have been a great many Scottish rugby players including such greats as Gavin Hastings, Andy Irvine and David Sole to name but a few.

Scotland was the home to the very first international rugby match in 1871 when Scotland played England at Edinburgh Academy's cricket field. It was not until 1922 that Murrayfield was purchased and until this time rugby matches were held on various cricket fields in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Today Murrayfield is used for a variety of purposes including concerts, sporting events and conventions.

Why not take in a stadium tour of Murrayfield to surround yourself in the history of Scottish rugby. Visit the royal box, player's room and dressing rooms and also get to see the world famous pitch close at hand. Tours last about an hour and a quarter and cost £5 for adults, £3 for children and concessions and a family ticket is £12.
Rugby is played in a great many schools in Scotland and many universities have teams for its students to join. There are also women's rugby leagues, leagues for people of certain age groups and obviously local leagues and Scottish leagues.

Murrayfield Stadium is located 20 minutes walk from the centre of Edinburgh on the west side of the city. Murrayfield is easily accessible by all forms of transport and it also boasts a large car park on site. So while you enjoy your stay in Glasgow or any other town In Scotland for that matter why not take in a rugby match and enjoy this world famous sport in a country which helped bring it to the mainstream.
